Programs
- Blue Ribbon Schools Program: recognizes outstanding public and private schools across America.
- Center for Civic Education: sponsors "We the People...The Citizen and the Constitution," an instructional program on the history and principles of American constitutional democracy for elementary, middle, and high school students.
- Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education: collects, and shares model K- 12 curriculum and instructional materials.
- Eisenhower Professional Development Federal Activities: help projects that promote high-quality teacher professional development in the core academic subjects.
- Eisenhower Regional Mathematics and Science Education Consortia: serve ten regions of the country and work with the ENC to disseminate effective materials and teaching methods.
- Evaluation Activities: include independent program evaluations to enhance and improve existing programs.
- Fund for the Improvement of Education/Character Education Partnerships: awards grants to state education agencies that partner with one or more local education agencies to design and administer character education projects.
- Javits Gifted and Talented Program: supports grants to meet the special educational needs of gifted and talented elementary and secondary students.
- National Awards Program for Model Professional Development: recognizes schools and school districts with comprehensive professional development that results in improved teaching and learning.
- National Awards Program for Effective Teacher Preparation: promotes excellence in teaching and teacher preparation.
- National Clearinghouse for Comprehensive School Reform: provides educators and the public with the most recent research and evaluation of reform designs, models, and strategies. In addition, the clearinghouse assists customers in promoting the use and application of research and development to upgrade the capacity of schools so they can prepare all students to achieve to high standards (for more information on the Comprehensive School Reform Program go to http://www.ed.gov/offices/OERI/csrrdp.html).
- Regional Educational Laboratory Program: helps educators and administrators "put the pieces of educational improvement together" and expand reform efforts to benefit schools in all communities.
- Regional Technology in Education Consortia: help teachers and others integrate advanced technologies into classrooms. Contact: Please go to the program's homepage to view the list of contacts for each geographical region.
- Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR): simulates technological innovation, utilizes small business to meet federal research and development (R&D) needs, and increases private sector commercialization.
- Star Schools Program: funds multi-state distance education partnerships to improve teaching and learning.
- Technology Innovation Challenge Grants: help local consortia expand new applications of technology to strengthen school reform.
- Telecommunications Demonstration Project for Mathematics: helps teachers prepare students to achieve state math content standards.
- The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards: establishes high and rigorous standards for what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do; and develops and operates a national voluntary system to assess and certify teachers who meet those standards.
- The System of Expert Panels: identifies and shares promising and exemplary products and programs in the following topic areas: math and science education; gender equity; safe, disciplined and drug free schools; and technology education.
Offices
- Development and Demonstration Programs Division (DDPD): administers legislatively-mandated grant programs designed to support education reform, and synthesizes knowledge that emerges from funded activities.
- Knowledge Applications Division (KAD): directs and coordinates activities focused on inquiry, knowledge development, and systematic documentation of nationwide reform assistance and dissemination efforts.
- Learning Technologies Division (LTD): is responsible for the coordination of research, development, demonstration, assessment and dissemination of new learning technologies within the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI).
- State and Local Services Division (SLSD): provides leadership in building a national assistance infrastructure of local, state, regional and national partners that works collaboratively to facilitate educational reform and improvement.
