Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out about student aid such as Pell Grants and students loans?

Our Institute awards grants for research, not student aid. To obtain information about Pell Grants, Perkins and Stafford loans, and other student financial assistance, call 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) and ask to receive a free booklet entitled, The Student Guide. The Student Guide tells you about the Department of Education's aid programs and how to apply for them. You can also obtain student aid information, including how to apply electronically, from the Office of Student Financial Aid website.

Does your Institute fund adult literacy programs
(or other non-research activities)?

Our Institute does not fund adult literacy programs or other non-research activities. You may find funding opportunities for special demonstration programs at the Department's website at http://www.ed.gov/GrantApps/ or search for a particular program of interest to you at: http://web99.ed.gov/GTEP/Program2.nsf.

Can you send me a Directory of Colleges and Universities (or other Department of Education publications?)

All Department of Education publications can be ordered toll-free directly from our Education Publication Center at 1-877-433-7827.

How can I receive funding from your Institute?

We award funds through competitive grants and contracts. Competitions for all such awards are announced at our Opportunities For Funding website. You can learn about all current Departmental competitions at http://www.ed.gov/GrantApps/.

You may also consult the U.S. Department of Education's Cross-Site Indexing Project if you have questions that pertain to another Department site. This is a searchable index of the Department of Education-supported Internet information resources.
