National Institute on Postsecondary Education, Libraries, and Lifelong Learning (PLLI)

Funded Projects

Field Initiated Studies Program (FIS)

This Institute supports projects that carry out a program of research and development to help improve post-compulsory learning in all settings including postsecondary institutions, work-based and community-based institutions as well as in virtual settings.

For information on other OERI Field Initiated Studies Grantees, visit the website for FY 1996 grantees or for FY 1997 grantees

Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR)

These two-phase contracts fund research to stimulate technological innovation in the private sector, strengthen the role of small business in meeting federal research and development needs, and increase the commercial application of research results.

National Research Centers

The Centers Program provides a stable foundation of long-term research and development on core issues and enduring concerns for postsecondary education, adult learning, and literacy.

Our National Center for Postsecondary Improvement (NCPI) conducts research and policy analysis addressing the fundamental challenges of improving postsecondary education in a rapidly changing national and global environment.

Our National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) conducts research and development activities on programs that serve adults who have low literacy levels, have limited English language proficiency, or do not have a high school diploma.

For information on research and development centers funded by other OERI National Institutes, visit the OERI Research & Development Centers homepage.

Visiting Scholars Fellowship Program

Scholars studying at PLLI will focus on research designed to improve successful participation and degree completion by students in postsecondary education; affordability, quality, and positive learning outcomes of postsecondary education; adult learning and literacy; and connections or transitions between education and work. Of central concern is the investigation of how adult learn--in formal educational institutions and work settings as well as in informal settings such as libraries, museums, and communities.

Interagency Education Research Initiative (IERI)

The IERI encourages proposals that focus on school readiness and K-3 learning in reading, mathematics, and science, and the education of preK-12 mathematics, reading and science teachers in content knowledge and the science underlying cognitive development and learning.

You may also access information on all 14 FY 1999 IERI grantees.
