Striving Readers aims to

• Raise middle and high school students' literacy levels in Title I-eligible schools with significant numbers of students reading below grade-levels.
• Build a strong, scientific research base for strategies that improve adolescent literacy instruction.

Striving Readers projects, funded in 2006, include

• A supplemental literacy intervention targeted to students reading significantly below grade level;
• A school-wide literacy program for improving student literacy in all disciplines (2006-11 cohort);
• A strong experimental evaluation component.
